Week 37 saw further large arrivals of winter fruits from primarily South Africa and Australia. As winter fruits continue to continuously arrive importers focus more on the build-up to National Holiday and Mid-Autumn Festival. The market seemed to have managed well in week 37 with the increased arrivals of citrus from the southern hemisphere well received. Week 38/39 will likely see more demand as a result of the build-up to the holiday period. Enormous volumes of citrus however will test this demand. The weather in week 37 remained warm overall with temperatures further north gradually decreasing. Guangzhou saw a combination of showers earlier in the week and cloudy warm weather for most of the week. Shanghai was generally cloudy with some rainfall. Week 38’s forecast for Shanghai is mostly partially cloudy conditions, as Guangzhou receives more rainfall.
There was slightly more volumes of U.S.A grapes available in week 37, with Scarlett Royal and Red Globe the most dominant varieties. Other varieties of black, green and red seedless were also available but in smaller volumes. Stocks from previous weeks continue to linger but could soon be supported by demand as we approach the holiday period. Most of the available U.S.A Red Globe decreased in price due to increased arrivals with limited brands trying to maintain sales at a price of between ¥250-260 (9kg). Most of the Red Globe continued to show an overall good quality with green stems and firmness to touch asking between ¥220-240 (9kg). Good quality Scarlett Royal packed in popular brands priced between ¥260-270 (9kg) and could find gradual sales, while a larger percentage of fruit found sales at ¥20-30 lower. Most Scarlett Royal available continue to show limited bloom, while stems show an ideal green colouration.
